Getting to Portoroz
Portoroz is 155 km from Ljubljana and 75 km from the Trieste Airport. A shuttle service will be arranged on request from the Trieste and Ljubljana Airports. Taxi
There is a possibility to get a taxi from both airports. The price of a taxi one-way is 140 euro from Ljubljana Airport to Portoroz and 100 euro from Trieste Airport to Portoroz.
Public transport - bus
Ljubljana Airport - Portoroz
A public bus runs from the Ljubljana Airport (Letališče Brnik) to Ljubljana Bus Station (Ljubljana Avtobusna Postaja) every full hour from 5:00 to 20:00. The trip takes 48 minutes. The price is 3,90 to 4,10 euros depending on departure time. Every ten minutes past the full hour there is a bus from Ljubljana center to the airport.
The buses from Ljubljana Bus Station to Portoroz (the price is 12,00 euro) depart at:6:00, 6:30, 8:00, 10:00, 15:00,17:00 and take from 2h 30 min-2hr 50 minutes.
Trieste Airport - Portoroz
Public transportation from Trieste Airport (Ronchi dei Leggionari) to Portoroz is first by bus No. 51 from the airport to Trieste Bus Station. It departs every half hour and it takes approx. 1 hour to get to Trieste. The price of the one-way ticket is 3,00 euro (get it from the ticket machine at the airport - tariff E06). Same for return journey.
Buses from Trieste Bus Station to Portoroz (the price is 4,55 euro and the trip takes approx. 1:15 h) depart at: 9:00, 11:15, 12:30, 15:30, 17:15
Train
There are two suitable railway stations available for travelling to Portoroz: Koper (15 km) and Trieste (Italy) (35 km). Both have bus or taxi connections available to Portoroz.
Car
If you travel by car and you approach the Slovenian coast from north and west directions, Portoroz can be reached by three highways:
· Munich (Germany) - Trieste (Italy) - Koper - Portoroz/Piran,
· Vienna (Austria)/Budapest (Hungary) - Ljubljana - Koper - Portoroz/Piran or
· Venice (Italy) - Trieste (Italy) - Koper - Portoroz/Piran.
When you approach the Slovenian coast from south and east directions, these are the options:
· Pula (Croatia) - Buje (Croatia) - Portoroz/Piran or
· Zagreb (Croatia) - Ljubljana - Koper - Portoroz/Piran.
When travelling through Italy the direction Trieste should be followed, while through Slovenia or from Croatia you should follow the direction Koper/Capodistria-Portorož/Portorose-Piran/Pirano.
The town of Portoroz consists of one main street running from the residential town Lucija to the old city of Piran and it can be approached from the regional road (passed Strunjan turn right at the traffic light on a hill). When you hit the main street driving down the hill, turn right and go on for approximately 1 km towards the old city of Piran.
The road starts to go uphill, after approximately 100 m of uphill drive turn left to the hotel resort St. Bernardin. Go strait on for another 200 m and there is a garage for the hotel guests on your left or an open parking area a little bit further on.
